grand opening, grand success

January 24, 2011

The rumored center of youthful urbanism in Wallowa County has had a grand opening.  We actually opened a month and a half earlier but waited until we had our shop chops in order before planning the occasion. We had a local porter (brewed by Mutiny) and some regional wines to sip on, food, music, and chocolate obviously. People were packed into the shop like, well, like it was the place to be.

The music was provided by Duncan and he even took requests (although my pleading for an acoustic version of rainbow in the dark went unfulfilled)

So far so good. We have hardly done any advertising and we still have a steady stream of people coming in. They are all mostly locals and it’s cool to look around the place and see people of all sorts hanging out and meeting up. We seem to have hit the right chord with the place because it attracts young and old and in-between. It helps of course that there’s nothing like it within hundreds of miles. We’re feeling more confident all the time that it’s going to work out fine.

Our only problem is keeping up with demand, which is a good problem to have I suppose. Making artisan chocolate takes a long time, and people buy it faster than we can make it. We’re going to have to start having swing and graveyard chocolate making shifts. Or something.
